Aidan Goes Back to the Future

Updated: Apr 11, 2024

During winter break 2023-2024, I decided to visit my co-workers and old bosses to pop in and see how things were going! I came with my previous access pass that allows you to go through the stage door. It was incredible to see so many familiar faces, and a few new additions to the people working on the show. I have realized that a long-term moving beast like a Broadway show takes a ton of people, and many of whom come and go. However, people old and new were just as kind and welcoming as they were during the rehearsal process and preview/opening process that I worked. I went on a two-show day Saturday, so I was able to watch the matinee and evening performance. During the matinee, I watched from the "jump" where lead stage manager Julia Jones called a near-flawless performance. Watching from up there is an incredible view from way above stage right. During the evening performance, I was able to watch from the sound booth at the back of the Winter Garden theatre, and watch exactly how every moment in the show is mixed and orchestrated via sound. Below are a few pictures from the exciting day back.

Here, I am onstage for the pre-show lift call. In front of me was one of my old boss, Brandon Allmon-Jackson. He is a Broadway Stage Manager that taught me everything about stage management and life on Broadway during the internship. I am lucky to continue to speak to him post work, and am excited to see where his young career will take him.

This was taken during the afternoon matinee where I watched the show from the "jump." Pictured is the stage during the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance scene. It is a phenomenal view of the show and (not pictured) right in front of me is SM Julia Jones calling the show. She said she prefers to call the show from the jump rather than the back of the house so that she can see backstage traffic more clearly if anything goes wrong during the performance. It is incredible to watch this Superhero do her work as calling a show like Back to the Future takes a ton of skill.

What a day it was! So nice to return and to be greeted by the family. I am hoping to not be too far from them very soon while working in the city this upcoming summer.
